Biography

Ministerial Director Berthold Goeke, born 1959 in Hamm/Westphalia, began studying law in 1980. After his legal clerkship in Hagen, Arnsberg, Hamm and Bonn, he joined the Federal Ministry for Environ-ment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) in 1989 as Deputy Press Spokesman for Federal Min-ister Prof. Töpfer. From February to July 1993, he worked as a consultant for environment and energy at the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the OECD/IEA in Paris. In July 1996, he moved to the Federal Chancellery where he held a position as a consultant for environment, nature conservation, reactor safety and sustainable development. In 2001, he was appointed head of the department. In July 2010, Mr. Goeke returned to the BMU and took over as Head of the division for Re-newable Energies. After a restructuring of the climate and energy tasks at the BMU, he has headed the Climate Protection Policy subdivision since October 2012. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of the German Biomass Research Centre since 2010 and of the Research Centre Jülich since 2013.
